Should an IronKey device be defragmented to keep it running well?

You should not need to defragment your IronKey device.

A spinning disk (e.g., a hard disk) should be defragmented to prevent the read/write head from having to manually move to a different location on the platter to retrieve data. This improves performance and efficiency of the writing and retrieving of data.

Digital memory devices such as the IronKey read and write to memory locations, but no moving part needs to look for these locations. Therefore, no performance gains can be realized from defragmenting a digital device such as the IronKey. Also, since all memory has a finite number of writes that can be made to it, you can prematurely age your device by doing this.
