How do I change the password to my IronKey device?

To change your IronKey's device password (Any IronKey version for Windows, and IronKey versions 2.0+ for Mac):

  1. Plug your IronKey into the computer, and unlock it with the current device password.
  2. Go the the "Settings" > "Change Password" menu within the IronKey Control Panel.
  3. Type in your current password.
  4. Type in your new password, and confirm it in the space provided. 
  5. Optional: Check the box to backup the device password to your my.ironkey.com account (requires Internet connection).
  6. Click "Change Password".

 

*We recommend that you back up your IronKey device password to my.ironkey.com, so that if you ever forget it, you can recover it and quickly regain access to your data.

To change your IronKey's device password on a Mac (IronKey build 1.3.5.x and prior):

  1. Plug your IronKey into the computer, and unlock it with the current device password.
  2. Click the "Change Password" button on the IronKey Control Panel.
  3. Type in your current password.
  4. Type in your new password, and confirm it in the space provided. 
  5. Click "Change Password".

 

*The Mac Control Panel versions prior to 2.0 do not allow the device password to be backed up online when changed.

To change your IronKey's device password in Linux:

  1. Plug your IronKey into the computer, mount the volumes, and unlock it with the current device password.
  2. Run the following command in a command shell: ironkey --changepwd 'new password' (e.g.: ironkey --changepwd mysecretpassword)

 

*The Linux Unlocker does not allow the device password to be backed up online when changed.
